 THE CREST

The motto and driving force of the college is well depicted in its emblem, which comprises of a lamp, a tree, a Jyoti and a quotation from Shreemad Bhagabat Geeta “ Kirtee Shree Bak Cha Narinang, Smruti Medha Dhruti Kshyama” The burning lamp at the centre symbolises the eternal light to eradicate the darkness of ignorance. The tree symbolises life, fertility, hope and renewal, which depicts the very character of a girl. The river speaks the eternity of women’s love, her search and drive to reach her destination. The Jyoti depicts the eternal artist the Odiya girl. The inscription of the Geeta speaks about the qualities of a girl such as glory, wealth, speech, memory, wisdom, patience and the power to excuse.

 OUR HISTORY

It is said “If you teach a boy, you teach an individual; if you teach a girl, you teach a nation” with this noble thought, Bhadrak Women’s College, Bhadrak was established in 1980. It was a brain child of the visionaries of Bhadrak like late Narendra Prasad Das, Sj. Jugal Kishore Pattnaik ( the founder President of the GB), Late Chintamani Mohanty , Late A.B. Siddique, Late Debananda Mohapatra, Sj. Jitendra Mohan Mohanty and Sj. Sachidananda Mohanty. Initially started in Govt. Girl’s High School, Bhadrak, on 26th September 1980, it moved to its own building in 1981 at Santhia on the serene bank of river Salandi.

 LEGAL STATUS

The college was originally affiliated to Utkal University in 1980 and was registered under 2 (f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1966 in the year 1992. It came under Fakirmohan University, Balasore in 1999 for +3 Stream and CHSE, Orissa in 1982 for +2 Stream.

 THE CURRICULUM

Since its inception the college is gradually growing from a tender plant to a luxuriant tree having so many branches like +2 arts and science streams with a variety of subject-options and B.A. and B.Sc. with Honours teaching facilities in Oriya, Urdu, Political Science, History and Botany. Besides, The Govt. Vocational Higher Secondary School and Joint venture Computer Course Education Centre (JVCCE) being run inside the college campus add feathers to the academic cap of the college.

 CAMPUS AND BUILDING

A bald and barren land measuring 4.15 acres lying unused in 1980, has been transformed into a lush -green floral campus enriched with Arts, Science and administrative Blocks, vocational wing, Library, Pandal , Parking Place, Hostel , Canteen, Principal ‘s quarter Gymnasium and beautiful Gardens. The UGC sponsored Special Hostel and science Laboratory under construction will further add to the infrastructural facilities of the college. The double storied building of the college consists of 21 well furnished rooms including a Hall and a Gallery. There is a sprawling play ground with provision for various games and sports, Kho-kho, Kabadi, Badminton, Gymnastics etc. for the physical development of the students. The Playground and the Pandal bubble with life on the occasion of Annual Sports, Annual Function and various Celebrations.

 ADMISSION

The college ensures wide publicity of the admission process through annual prospectus and students are selected for admission on the basic marks. However due weightage is given to the reserved categories of applicants as per the Govt. stipulations from time to time. The present strength of the college at the +2 level is xxxxxx and +3 level is xxxxxx.

 TEACHING- LARNING PROCESS

The Annual Academic Calendar is prepared at the beginning of each academic session. Each teacher prepares his/her teaching plan and maintains progress register regularly which are reviewed by the Head of the Dept. daily and principal weekly. They also submit their monthly work-done report to the principal. The college has an effective faculty strength of xxxxx against sanctioned of xxxxxx . A good number of faculty members are constantly engaged in research, publication and research guidance. Besides they also attend refresher courses, orientation course , seminars , workshops and different training programmes to update their knowledge. Not depending exclusively on the traditional “ Chalk and talk” method, the teachers make the classes interactive and living by asking questions and giving sufficient scope to the students for expressing their doubts freely and frankly. Regular organisation of seminars, workshop, open debates, observation of important days, under taking environment Projects, socio-economic and environmental surveys, study tours, exposure visits and excursions, holding different competition like cooking , Jhoti, flower decoration , role-play, song, dance, one-act play , debate, essay, poem and story writing , news paper reading and quiz are the integral parts of teaching-learning process. Besides , the students gain life skills, practical experience, community orientation and positive attitude through different programmes organised by N.S.S., Youth Red Cross, Eco-Club and different Department of the college. The students also take part in various indoor and outdoor games, sports and gymnastics and have achieved distinction at the district and state levels.
